Enjoying Birthdays

Birthdays - do you still fully enjoy them? Or do you tend to get birthday anxiety?

Well, I don't really remember the last time I enjoyed mine. Maybe when I was 18 or 21.
But at some point, the thought of turning another year older started to creep in. Even when I was in my early twenties (I mean how crazy is that?). Then my grandma died on that day. And then all the "shoulds" & "at this age" began to pop up.

So I stopped liking my birthdays all together. I usually just tried to ignore them, hoping as little people as possible would notice.

But my husband loves birthdays and always tries to make mine really special. So my avoidance strategy is not really working anymore.

But this year, I decided to enjoy the heck out of it! Celebrate like like it's a freaking New Year's. No ugly thoughts whatsoever! Even in the pool, wearing my swimming suit, no makeup, wet hair and all that! Seriously!

What changed? Not much. Just what I focus on. Instead of being sad about getting older, I decided to focus on gratitude for being blessed with another amazing year on this planet!
If I weren't alive for another year, so many wonderful things would not have happened.
I wouldn't be trying 100 new things, I wouldn't have traveled across Canada by train & then by car, I wouldn't have moved to a city that seriously is a dream destination, I wouldn't have enjoyed another year with my husband, I wouldn't laugh at countless pics my mom shares with me daily, and I would miss so many more little things that I'm grateful for.

So what do you think?
Are you going to join me and celebrate your next birthdays like it's a freaking New Year's? Because it kind of is!
